From the biggest names in streaming — Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video — to free services like Tubi, Pluto TV, and Vizio’s own WatchFree+, the SmartCast app store has something for everyone. Installing apps is quick and straightforward, and once installed, they live right on your SmartCast home screen for easy access.

Browse the Vizio App Store

Installing a new app on your Vizio Smart TV takes just a few steps. Make sure your TV is connected to WiFi and that you’ve completed initial activation at vizio.com/setup before you begin — without activation, the app store may not function properly.
1

Open SmartCast

Press the V button or the SmartCast button on your Vizio remote. This takes you directly to the SmartCast home screen, where you’ll see your currently installed apps displayed as a row of tiles.
2

Navigate to the App Store

Scroll to the right along the apps row until you see the App Store tile at the end of the list. Alternatively, you can press the Menu button on your remote, navigate to SmartCast, and select App Store from there.
3

Browse or Search for an App

Inside the App Store, you can scroll through curated categories like Featured, Entertainment, Sports, News, and Kids. If you know what you’re looking for, select the Search icon (magnifying glass) at the top of the screen and use the on-screen keyboard to type the app name.
4

Select the App

Once you’ve found the app you want, highlight it and press OK on your remote. You’ll see a detail page showing a description of the app, screenshots, and any subscription requirements.
5

Install the App

Select Add App or Install on the app detail page. The TV will download and install the app automatically. Installation typically takes less than 30 seconds depending on your internet speed. Once complete, a confirmation message appears.
6

Open and Sign In

After installation, select Launch or navigate back to your SmartCast home screen to find the newly installed app in your apps row. Open it, then follow the on-screen instructions to sign in or create an account with that service.
Many streaming apps require a paid subscription to access content. Apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Max require you to create an account and choose a subscription plan through their respective websites or during first launch. Free apps like Tubi, Pluto TV, and Vizio’s WatchFree+ require no subscription at all.

How to Find an App

If you’re looking for a specific app and don’t want to scroll through the entire store, SmartCast gives you two fast ways to search. On-Screen Keyboard Search From inside the App Store, select the Search icon at the top of the screen. Use the on-screen keyboard with your remote’s directional buttons to type the app name letter by letter. Results appear in real time as you type. Highlight the correct result and press OK to open the app’s detail page. Voice Search If your Vizio remote includes a built-in microphone, press and hold the microphone button and say the app name aloud — for example, “Peacock” or “Apple TV Plus.” SmartCast will search the App Store and display matching results instantly. This is far faster than typing with the on-screen keyboard.
Use the SmartCast mobile app on your phone as a keyboard when searching for apps on your TV. Open the VIZIO SmartCast app, connect to your TV, and tap the keyboard icon in the app’s remote view. Your phone’s full keyboard will appear, making text entry much faster and easier than hunting through the on-screen keys with your remote.

Managing Installed Apps

Over time, your apps row on the SmartCast home screen may get crowded. SmartCast lets you organize, rearrange, and remove apps to keep things tidy. Rearranging Apps On the SmartCast home screen, scroll to the app you want to move. Highlight it and press the OK button to open the app options menu (you may need to hold OK or look for a context menu). Select Move and use the left/right directional buttons to reposition the app tile where you want it. Press OK to confirm the new position. Removing Apps To remove an app you no longer use, highlight the app tile on the home screen and press OK (or hold OK depending on your TV model) to bring up the context menu. Select Remove App or Delete. The app will be uninstalled from your TV, freeing up storage space. You can always reinstall it from the App Store later at no cost. Hiding vs. Deleting Some apps that come pre-installed on SmartCast cannot be fully deleted, but they can be hidden from your home screen. Use the same context menu to select Hide rather than Remove if the delete option is unavailable.

App Won’t Install? Try These Fixes

If you’re having trouble installing an app, work through the following troubleshooting steps before contacting support.
A poor or dropped WiFi connection is the most common reason app installations fail. Go to Menu → Network → Network Connection and confirm your TV shows as connected. If the connection looks weak, try moving your router closer to the TV or restarting both your router and the TV.
A quick restart often clears temporary errors that block app installations. Press the Menu button, go to System → Reset & Admin → Soft Power Cycle — or simply unplug your TV from the power outlet for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. After restarting, try the installation again.
Outdated firmware can cause app store problems. Go to Menu → System → Check for Updates. If an update is available, install it and let the TV restart. Firmware updates improve compatibility with new apps and fix known bugs.
If a previously installed app freezes or behaves unexpectedly, clearing its cache can help. Navigate to Menu → System → Reset & Admin → Clear Memory (Factory Default). Note that a factory reset will erase all installed apps and settings, so try other steps first. For individual app cache clearing, check if your TV model supports it under System → App Settings.
If your TV’s internal storage is full, new apps can’t be installed. Remove apps you no longer use to free up space, then try the installation again. Go to your SmartCast home screen, highlight unused app tiles, and select Remove App from the context menu.
Performing a factory reset will erase all installed apps, saved passwords, and account information from your TV. Only use this as a last resort. If you go this route, you’ll need to redo your setup at vizio.com/setup and reinstall your apps from scratch.
Once your favorite apps are installed and organized, your Vizio Smart TV becomes a complete entertainment hub. Revisit the App Store anytime new services launch — Vizio regularly adds new apps, and many are completely free to download and use.
